Greetings from the US HAEA Angioedema Center,
Happy Thanksgiving. We have much to be grateful for with the progress made in unraveling the pathophysiology, advances in treatment and development of an increasingly integrative approach to care of HAE. Truly, HAE ‘in motion’.
As you have read, Drs Zuraw and Riedl both lectured at a forum for HAE at the American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) in San Antonio earlier this month. Our Allergy Fellows, Drs Eastman and Doshi also presented research posters at the meeting featuring Angioedema Cases that we have seen at the Center. Reflecting the growing interest in HAE Dr Zuraw was featured as the ‘Meet the Professor’ for an interactive discussion of HAE at the American College of Rheumatology in San Francisco immediately following the ACAAI. I have been ‘holding down the fort’ at the Center seeing patients and working on our research projects. Keep your fingers crossed—we should hear next month if we received funding for our PTSD and HAE project.
Our staff continues to work tirelessly to provide a truly positive experience for those of you who have come to the Center. Next month I hope to introduce our new member—a medical assistant who will also be integrated into collecting samples for our studies on HAE.
In closing an appropriate quote for the Thanksgiving Holiday—“He is a man of sense who does not grieve for what he has not, but rejoices in what he has” Epictetus. We are grateful for the support of our staff, the HAEA and all of you. I wish you a wonderful holiday.
